Bed Bug
Scientific Name: Cimex lectularius
Order & Family: Hemiptera: Cimicidae
Size: 1mm to 7mm (approximately the size of an apple seed when adult).

Natural Habitat
Found primarily in human dwellings, particularly in mattresses, bed frames, furniture cracks, electrical outlets, and behind baseboards.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages (blood-feeders) that primarily feed on the blood of humans, but may also feed on other warm-blooded animals.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal insects that hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They are attracted to heat and carbon dioxide. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult).
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy skin rashes, psychological distress, and allergic reactions. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no known ecosystem benefits to their presence in human environments.
