Natural Habitat

Human dwellings, specifically cracks and crevices near sleeping areas such as mattresses, bed frames, and furniture.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophagous insects, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive. Nymphs require a blood meal to molt into the next life stage. They are attracted to heat and carbon dioxide and undergo five nymphal stages before reaching adulthood.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include itchy skin welts, allergic reactions, secondary skin infections from scratching, and significant psychological distress. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no ecological benefits in human environments.
