Gordius sp. (Gordiacea)
- Order & Family
- Order Gordioidea, Family Gordiidae
- Size
- 4 to 14 inches (10 to 35 cm) long, but only 1/25 to 1/15th of an inch wide.
Natural Habitat
Damp environments such as puddles, cattle troughs, streams, cisterns, and inside the bodies of insect hosts.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae are parasites inside insects; adults do not eat and focus solely on reproduction.
Behavior Patterns

Risks & Benefits
Harmless to humans, livestock, and plants; they are beneficial to ecosystems by helping to control insect populations.
