Natural Habitat

Found globally in human dwellings, typically hiding in mattress seams, bed frames, cracks, crevices, and behind furniture near sleeping areas.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophagous (blood-eaters); they primarily feed on human blood but can also feed on other warm-blooded animals if humans are unavailable.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal parasites that hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and can survive for several months without a blood meal.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include itchy bites leading to secondary skin infections, allergic reactions, and significant psychological distress or insomnia. Benefits are nonexistent as they are considered household pests and do not provide ecosystem services for humans.
