Case-bearing Clothes Moth

Natural Habitat

Typically found indoors in dry areas near fabric sources like closets, carpet edges, or under furniture. In nature, they inhabit birds' nests.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on natural fibers containing keratin, such as wool, silk, fur, feathers, and carpets. They do not eat synthetic fabrics unless soiled with biological stains.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae carry a portable, flattened, parchment-like case made of silk and debris, which they retreat into when disturbed. They crawl along surfaces dragging this case. Adults fly weakly and tend to hide in dark areas.

Risks & Benefits

Risk: They are a notorious household pest that causes significant damage to clothing, carpets, and upholstery made of natural fibers. Benefit: In nature, they help decompose animal matter (feathers, hair) in abandoned nests.
