Natural Habitat

Originally from East Asia, now invasive worldwide including North America and Europe. Found in agricultural crops, orchards, and frequently enters homes and structures during colder months to overwinter.

Diet & Feeding

Polyphagous herbivore (plant eater). Feeds on over 100 species of plants, including fruits (apples, peaches, pears), vegetables (peppers, tomatoes, corn), and ornamentals by piercing the skin and sucking out juices.

Behavior Patterns

Known for seeking shelter in houses during autumn to hibernate (diapause). They are clumsy fliers and emit a pungent, cilantro-like odor when threatened or crushed.
