Natural Habitat

Indoor environments; commonly found in closets, drawers, and areas where natural fibers are stored.

Diet & Feeding

Keratin-rich materials including wool, silk, fur, feathers, and hair; they also consume lint, dust, and occasionally dried plant matter.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs a protective silken case incorporating fibers from its food source. It carries this case as it moves and feeds, eventually pupating inside it. Adults do not feed and are primarily active in dark areas.

Risks & Benefits

Significant risk as a household pest, capable of causing extensive damage to clothing, upholstery, and carpets made of natural fibers. No direct health risk to humans, but detrimental to household textiles.
