Carpet Beetle (specifically, often resembles the Variegated Carpet Beetle or Black Carpet Beetle larva/adult stages)

Natural Habitat

Found indoors in darker, undisturbed areas like closets, underneath furniture, in carpets, attics, and bird nests. Outdoors, they are found on flowers.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on natural fibers (wool, silk, fur, feathers), dead insects, pet hair, and processed grains. Adults primarily feed on pollen and nectar.

Behavior Patterns

Adults are attracted to light and often found near windowsills. Larvae are photophobic (avoid light) and hide in fabrics or cracks. They undergo complete metamorphosis.

Risks & Benefits

They do not bite or sting humans and carry no known diseases. However, the larvae are a significant household pest that can cause extensive damage to clothing, carpets, and upholstery. Their tiny hairs can sometimes cause allergic skin dermatitis in sensitive individuals.
