Natural Habitat

Indoor environments, particularly in carpets, upholstery, closets, and storage areas containing natural fibers.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on natural animal fibers like wool, silk, fur, feathers, and lint; adults feed on pollen and nectar.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae are scavengers that prefer dark, undisturbed areas. They undergo several molts, leaving behind hollowed-out brown skins. Following pupation, adults emerge and seek light.

Risks & Benefits

Larvae can damage household textiles and clothing. The hairs of the larvae can cause allergic reactions or 'carpet beetle dermatitis' in sensitive individuals. They are not known to bite or carry diseases.
