Damp, dark places such as under logs, rocks, leaf litter, and in basements or crawl spaces.

Detritivore, feeding on decaying organic matter, rotting wood, and fungi.

Nocturnal and active at night; some species can roll into a ball for defense. They breathe through pseudotrachea and require high humidity to survive.

Harmless to humans—they do not bite, sting, or transmit diseases. They are beneficial to ecosystems by breaking down decaying material and recycling nutrients, though they can occasionally become minor indoor pests if moisture is high.
