Behavior Patterns
Alates are the reproductive stage that emerge in large swarms, typically after rain or during seasonal temperature shifts, to mate and establish new colonies. After a short flight, they shed their wings.
Risks & Benefits
Major structural pest risk; can cause extensive damage to wooden buildings. In the ecosystem, they are beneficial decomposers that recycle nutrients from dead wood back into the soil.
