Natural Habitat

Indoor environments, primarily in cracks and crevices near sleeping areas (mattress seams, bed frames, headboards, behind wallpaper).

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on animal blood, primarily from humans, though they can feed on other warm-blooded animals.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive; they emerge at night to feed and hide during the day. They have five nymphal stages requiring blood meals to molt and can live for several months without feeding.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include physical reactions such as itchy welts, allergic reactions, and significant psychological distress (insomnia/anxiety). They are not known to transmit diseases to humans but are considered a major indoor pest infestation risk.
