Diet & Feeding
Adults feed on nectar from flowers like Hostas, thistles, and milkweed. Larvae feed on leaves of legumes, most commonly Black Locust and Honey Locust trees.
Behavior Patterns
Characterized by a rapid, skipping flight style. Larvae create protective shelters by folding leaves over and securing them with silk. They are active during the day and are long-lived for butterflies.
Risks & Benefits
No risk to humans; they are beneficial pollinators for many garden and wild flower species. Larvae may cause minor aesthetic damage to host trees but rarely pose a threat to tree health.
