Household Casebearer (or Plaster Bagworm)

Natural Habitat

Typically found indoors in humid climates, often on walls, under furniture, or in closets. They require high humidity to complete their development.

Diet & Feeding

They feed on old spider webs, wool, hair, lint, and dead insects. They are detritivores.

Behavior Patterns

The larva drags a protective, flattened case (resembling a pumpkin seed) around with it, which it constructs from silk and debris. It can retreat inside the case at both ends if threatened. It eventually pupates inside this case.

Risks & Benefits

Generally considered a nuisance pest rather than a major threat. They do not bite or sting humans, but they can damage wool clothing, rugs, and fabrics if present in large numbers.
