Obligate hematophages, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.

Nightly activity peaks just before dawn. They are attracted to CO2 and body heat; they hide during the day and undergo hemimetabolous metamorphosis.

Primary risks include itchy welts, allergic reactions, and psychological distress. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans but are significant household pests.
