Natural Habitat
Primarily human dwellings, especially beds, mattresses, and furniture. They hide in cracks and crevices during the day and emerge at night.
Diet & Feeding
Exclusively blood-feeders. They feed on human blood, but can also feed on other warm-blooded animals if humans are not available.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal, hiding during the day and emerging at night to feed. They are attracted to carbon dioxide and warmth. Females lay eggs in secluded places. They go through incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult).
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy bites (some severe allergic reactions), sleep disturbance, and psychological distress. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no known benefits.
