Natural Habitat

Hematophagous (obligate blood-feeders), primarily feeding on human blood.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they undergo five nymphal stages, shedding their translucent exoskeletons (visible in the image) after each blood meal before reaching maturity.
Risks & Benefits
They are a major urban pest causing itchy welts, psychological distress, and allergic reactions; however, they are not known vectors of disease. Their presence is a nuisance rather than an ecological benefit.
