Household Case-bearing Moth (Larva)

Natural Habitat

Typically found inside buildings, homes, and garages, often on walls or hiding in dark, humid corners.

Diet & Feeding

The larvae feed on organic detritus, including cobwebs, wool, hair, silk, and dead insects.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs a protective spindle-shaped case from silk and debris (like sand and dust) that is open at both ends. It drags this case as it moves and can turn around inside it to feed from either end.

Risks & Benefits

Mostly a nuisance pest; however, they can cause minor damage to natural fabrics like wool or silk. They are harmless to humans and pets.
