Behavior Patterns

Prefer dark, undisturbed areas. They move slowly and go through a complete metamorphosis; the larval stage is the longest and most destructive phase.

Risks & Benefits

Can cause significant damage to household fabrics and textiles. Their shed hairs can cause 'carpet beetle dermatitis,' an allergic reaction or skin irritation in sensitive individuals. They do not bite humans.
