Household Casebearer (Case-bearing Clothes Moth larva)
Phereoeca uterella
- Order & Family
- Lepidoptera: Tineidae
- Size
- Case typically 8-15 mm long (1/3 to 1/2 inch).
Natural Habitat
Commonly found indoors on walls, under furniture, or in closets, particularly in warm, humid climates.
Diet & Feeding
The larvae feed on spider webs, wool, feathers, hair, and dust particles containing protein-rich organic debris.
Behavior Patterns
The larva builds a flattened, spindle-shaped silken case covered in sand, dust, and fibers. It can stick its head out of either end to move and feed, and eventually pupates inside the same case.
