Mold Mite

Natural Habitat

High moisture environments with mold or fungi, including pantries, kitchens, damp basements, and stored food products.

Diet & Feeding

Primarily feeds on mold, fungi, and products rich in fat and protein such as grains, seeds, cheese, and dried meats.

Behavior Patterns

They undergo a rapid life cycle in humid conditions (above 60% RH). When populations explode, they appear as a moving 'dust' or light-colored fuzz on surfaces.

Risks & Benefits

Non-biting and generally harmless to structure, but can cause 'grocer's itch' (allergic dermatitis) or respiratory irritation in sensitive individuals. They indicate a moisture or mold problem that needs addressing.
