Booklouse

Found in damp, humid indoor environments such as libraries, pantries, basements, and around damp building materials where mold or fungi can grow.

Feeds on microscopic molds, fungi, starch from book bindings, wallpaper paste, and sometimes stored dry foods.

Wingless insects that thrive in high humidity and warm temperatures. They move quickly when disturbed and reproduce rapidly under favorable damp conditions.

Risks: They do not bite humans, transmit diseases, or feed on wood, but high populations can become a nuisance or damage old books and stored food by contaminating it. Benefits: None significant to humans indoors, though they act as minor detritivores in natural environments.
