Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding

Primarily feeds on stored food products such as grains, flours, cereals, pasta, nuts, dried fruits, pet food, and candy. They do not feed on whole, undamaged grains but prefer broken kernels or processed foods.

Behavior Patterns

They are nocturnal or crepuscular, hiding in cracks and crevices during the day. They are excellent at finding food sources and can infest pantries. They are attracted to lights at night and may fly indoors.

Risks & Benefits

Potential risks include contamination of stored food products, leading to economic losses and potential health issues if infested food is consumed. They are not known to bite or transmit diseases. There are no significant benefits to humans or the ecosystem as they are primarily considered pests.
