Natural Habitat

Bed bugs are typically found in human dwellings, hiding in mattresses, bed frames, furniture, cracks in walls, and other dark, secluded areas close to their human hosts.

Diet & Feeding

Exclusively blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.

Behavior Patterns

Bed bugs are primarily nocturnal, feeding on human blood while their host is asleep. They are very secretive and hide in cracks and crevices during the day. Females lay 1-5 eggs per day, gluing them to surfaces.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: Bed bug bites can cause itchy welts, leading to skin irritation and secondary infections from scratching. They can also cause anxiety, sleep deprivation, and psychological distress. While not known to transmit diseases in humans, their presence is a nuisance and can be very difficult and expensive to eradicate. Benefits: No direct ecological benefits recognized for humans or the environment.
