Scientific Name: Cimex lectularius
Order & Family: Order Hemiptera, Family Cimicidae
Size: 4–7 mm (0.16–0.28 inches) as adults; larger and more reddish after a blood meal.

Natural Habitat
Found in human dwellings, typically hidden in mattresses, bed frames, cracks, crevices, and baseboards within close proximity to a host.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they use heat and carbon dioxide to locate hosts, feed for 3-10 minutes, and kemudian hide to digest and reproduce. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult).
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Causes itchy bites, allergic reactions, and significant psychological distress/insomnia. While they do not transmit pathogens, infestations are extremely difficult to eradicate. Benefits: None.
