Webbing Clothes Moth Larva

Natural Habitat

Found indoors in dark, undisturbed areas such as closets, drawers, attics, and underneath carpets or rugs where natural fibers adhere.

Diet & Feeding

Specifically feeds on keratin-rich natural fibers, including wool, fur, silk, feathers, felt, and leather. Can also eat cotton or linen if soiled with food stains or oils.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae spin silken tunnels or 'webbing' tubes as they feed across the surface of fabrics. They tend to graze on fabric rather than eating holes completely through, often leaving irregularly shaped damaged patches.

Risks & Benefits

Primary risk is significant economic damage to household textiles, clothing, and rugs. They are a major pest in museums. They do not bite or sting humans and carry no known diseases; they are solely a property pest.
