Natural Habitat
Indoor environments, specifically within cracks and crevices near human sleeping areas, mattresses, and bed frames.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophagous; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo five nymphal stages, shedding their exoskeleton (molting) between each stage after a blood meal.
Risks & Benefits
Risk: Causes itchy bites and skin rashes; can cause psychological distress and sleep deprivation. While they do not transmit pathogens, they are significant household pests. No known ecosystem benefits in human habitats.
