Natural Habitat
Human dwellings, specifically cracks and crevices in or around beds, mattresses, and furniture.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophagous insects, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive. They hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They go through five nymphal stages, requiring a blood meal to progress to the next stage.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include physical itching, red welts, allergic reactions, and psychological distress. While they can carry pathogens, they are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no known ecosystem benefits for humans.
