Known for a unique snapping mechanism that allows them to 'click' and launch themselves into the air to escape predators or right themselves when upside down. They are nocturnal and attracted to artificial light.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans and do not bite or sting. However, the larval stage (wireworms) can be significant agricultural pests, damaging the roots of cereal crops, potatoes, and garden vegetables.
