Natural Habitat

Typically found in fields, meadows, and gardens; often attracted to lights at night and may wander indoors.

Diet & Feeding

Adults primarily feed on plant nectar, pollen, and soft plant tissues. Larvae (wireworms) feed on decaying organic matter and roots.

Behavior Patterns

Known for a unique snapping mechanism that allows them to 'click' and launch themselves into the air to escape predators or right themselves when upside down. They are nocturnal and attracted to artificial light.

Risks & Benefits

Generally harmless to humans and do not bite or sting. However, the larval stage (wireworms) can be significant agricultural pests, damaging the roots of cereal crops, potatoes, and garden vegetables.
