Natural Habitat

Found on the undersides of leaves of various deciduous trees and shrubs, including sycamore, oak, and azalea.

Diet & Feeding

Piercing-sucking mouthparts used to feed on plant sap from the undersides of leaves.

Behavior Patterns

Nymphs often accumulate debris, such as cast skins or fecal matter, on their backs for camouflage. They undergo five molts before becoming winged adults.

Risks & Benefits

They are primarily garden pests that cause stippling (yellow spotting) on leaves; while they can bite humans if they land on skin, the bite is minor and they do not transmit diseases.
