Case-bearing Clothes Moth Larva (Casing)
Scientific Name: Tinea pellionella
Order & Family: Lepidoptera (Order) / Tineidae (Family)
Size: Larval case is typically 5-10 mm long (approx. 0.2-0.4 inches).

Natural Habitat
Typically found indoors in dark, undisturbed areas like closets, drawers, under rugs, or in fabric storage. They thrive in humid environments.
Diet & Feeding
The larvae feed on keratin-rich natural fibers such as wool, silk, fur, feathers, hair, and sometimes blended synthetic fabrics if they contain sweat or food stains.
Behavior Patterns
Unlike other clothes moths, the larva carries a silken case around with it as it feeds, retreating inside when threatened. The case often incorporates fibers from the material it is eating, giving it a camouflaged appearance.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Significant pest of textiles; larvae can cause extensive damage to clothing, carpets, tapestries, and taxidermy. Benefits: None in a domestic setting; in nature, they aid in decomposition of animal matter.
