Bird Mite

Found in bird nests, poultry houses, and indoor environments near window sills or vents where birds nest.

Obligate blood feeders, primarily targeting birds but will bite humans and other mammals if a bird host is unavailable.

They are highly mobile and photophilic. When bird hosts leave the nest, mites migrate in large numbers into buildings seeking a new blood meal.

Risks include skin irritation, intense itching, and 'creeping' sensations on the skin; they do not transmit diseases to humans but cause significant psychological distress and dermatitis.
