Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding

The egg case itself does not eat; however, once hatched, the nymphs are carnivorous and eat small insects like aphids and gnats.

Behavior Patterns

The female produces a frothy secretion that hardens into a protective, papery structure to insulate eggs through winter. Nymphs emerge in spring after several months of development.

Risks & Benefits

Highly beneficial to the ecosystem and gardeners as they act as biological pest control by eating harmful insects. They pose no risk to humans.
