Natural Habitat

Typically found inside residential buildings on walls, floors, and under furniture where dust and pet hair accumulate.

Diet & Feeding

Feeds on wool, silk, hair, cobwebs, and dead insect remains. They are scavengers of organic fibers.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs a protective silk case covered in sand or dust. It can pivot its body to emerge from either end of the case to feed or move. When threatened, it retreats entirely inside.

Risks & Benefits

Generally harmless to humans and pets, but can be a minor pest of fabrics and upholstery. They provide a benefit by consuming household organic debris and cobwebs.
