Behavior Patterns

Adults are active and can fly; they are often attracted to light. They lay eggs in food sources, and the larvae are the primary stage responsible for damage as they tunnel through material.

Risks & Benefits

Significant economic pest of stored products. Causes damage to food supplies and museum collections; however, they pose no direct physical risk to humans as they do not bite or sting.
