Case-bearing Clothes Moth (Larva)

Natural Habitat

Typically found indoors in dark, undisturbed areas like closets, under furniture, or within rugs and storage bins.

Diet & Feeding

The larvae feed on keratinous animal products including wool, silk, fur, feathers, and hair. They can also feed on dried plant materials.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs a protective silken case around itself, incorporating debris and fibers from its food source. It carries this case as it moves and feeds, eventually pupating inside it. Adults are poor fliers and avoid light.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: They are significant household pests that cause damage to clothing, upholstery, and expensive textiles. Benefits: In the wild, they act as decomposers by breaking down animal remains like hair and feathers.
