Natural Habitat

Forests, agricultural fields, orchards, urban and suburban areas. They often overwinter in homes and other structures.

Diet & Feeding

Polyphagous herbivore; feeds on a wide variety of plants, including fruits (e.g., apples, peaches, berries), vegetables (e.g., corn, tomatoes, peppers), and ornamental plants, by piercing the plant tissue and sucking out the sap.

Behavior Patterns

Known for their aggregation behavior, especially in the fall when they seek sheltered places to overwinter. When disturbed or crushed, they emit a pungent, unpleasant odor as a defense mechanism. They are highly mobile fliers.

Risks & Benefits
