Natural Habitat
Domestic environments, specifically in proximity to sleeping areas such as mattresses, bed frames, and wall crevices.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophagy; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they undergo five nymphal stages (instars) requiring a blood meal to molt at each stage. They use heat and carbon dioxide sensors to find hosts.
Risks & Benefits
Significant pests that cause itchy welts, allergic reactions, and psychological distress. They do not currently have a known role in transmitting diseases to humans but are difficult to eradicate once established.
