The larvae live in the slime layer of drains breathing through a respiratory tube. They undergo pupation within the same organic film before emerging as adult flies.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans; they do not bite or sting. However, they can be a nuisance and may transport bacteria from contaminated areas. They benefit the ecosystem by breaking down organic sludge.
