Natural Habitat
Found in and near deciduous woodlands and forests in North America.
Diet & Feeding
Caterpillars feed on the leaves of various trees like hickory, walnut, and sweetgum. Adults have no mouthparts and do not eat; their sole purpose is to reproduce.
Behavior Patterns
They are nocturnal and are often attracted to artificial light. The adults have a very short lifespan of about 7 to 10 days devoted to mating. They use their long tails to disrupt the echolocation of bats, their primary predators.
