Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Primarily nocturnal insects that emerge from hiding to feed every 5–10 days. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and can survive months without a host.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy welts, allergic reactions, and secondary infections from scratching; they are significant psychological stressors but are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no ecological benefits to humans.
