Natural Habitat
Found primarily on boxelder trees, as well as maple and ash trees; often seek shelter in houses during winter.
Diet & Feeding
Feed on the juices of boxelder seeds, leaves, and occasionally other soft plant parts using piercing-sucking mouthparts.
Behavior Patterns
Diurnal insects that congregate in large numbers on sunny, warm surfaces in the fall before seeking overwintering sites in cracks and crevices.
Risks & Benefits
Generally considered a nuisance pest rather than a danger; they do not bite or sting but can stain fabrics with their excrement and emit a foul odor if crushed.
