Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Blood from avian hosts; they will bite humans if birds are unavailable, though they cannot survive solely on human blood.
Behavior Patterns
They are extremely active crawlers and are most mobile during the warmer months. These mites typically feed at night and seek out dark crevices during the day; their color changes from translucent to brownish-red after feeding.
Risks & Benefits
Can cause intensely itchy skin irritation and dermatitis in humans. They do not transmit diseases to people but can be a nuisance and a source of significant psychological stress in infested homes.
