Natural Habitat

Found in pantries, food processing plants, and storage facilities, infesting stored dry food products.

Diet & Feeding

Feeds on a wide variety of stored dry foods including grains, cereals, dried fruits, flour, pasta, pet food, nuts, and chocolate.

Behavior Patterns

They are highly mobile and can quickly infest food products. Both larvae and adults feed on stored products. Adults are long-lived, up to 3 years, and can reproduce quickly under favorable conditions. They cannot fly.

Risks & Benefits

Primarily a pest of stored food products, causing contamination and damage to food. They do not bite or sting humans and pose no direct health risk other than food spoilage. No known benefits.
