Natural Habitat

Indoor environments, specifically human sleeping areas such as mattresses, bed frames, headboards, and cracks or crevices near furniture

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophagous (blood-eaters), primarily feeding on human blood, usually at night while the host is sleeping

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive. They undergo five nymphal stages (instars) and require a blood meal to molt to the next stage. They are experts at hitchhiking on luggage or clothing to spread to new locations

Risks & Benefits

Risks include itchy skin welts, allergic reactions, secondary skin infections from scratching, and significant psychological distress or insomnia. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans but are considered a major urban pest
