Behavior Patterns

Flightless beetle that spends its life cycle within stored grain. Females drill a hole in a grain kernel, lay an egg, and seal it with a secretion. The larvae develop entirely inside the kernel.

Risks & Benefits

Significant economic pest that destroys stored food supplies. It poses no direct health risk to humans or pets through biting or stinging, but can cause spoilage and weight loss in grain stocks.
