Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on pantry staples including flour, grains, nuts, dried fruit, chocolate, and pet food. Adults do not eat.

Behavior Patterns

The larvae spin silk webbing as they feed, eventually crawling away from the food source to pupate in cracks, crevices, or the corners of packaging. They undergo complete metamorphosis from egg to adult.

Risks & Benefits

A major nuisance pest that causes significant food waste through contamination with webbing, frass, and cocoons. They are non-toxic to humans if accidentally ingested but ruin household food supplies.
