Natural Habitat
Found in coniferous forests and surrounding areas; commonly enters homes and buildings in autumn to seek shelter for the winter.
Diet & Feeding
Feeds on the Developing seeds and flowers of various coniferous trees (such as pine, Douglas-fir, and hemlock) using piercing-sucking mouthparts.
Behavior Patterns
Nymphs and adults are active during the warmer months on host trees. In late summer and autumn, adults aggregate and seek overwintering sites. When disturbed, they can produce a pungent odor as a defense mechanism.
Risks & Benefits
They do not bite, sting, or cause structural damage to homes, though they are considered a nuisance pest indoors. They can potentially reduce seed yields in commercial conifer seed orchards.
