Indoors within homes, carpets, closets, pantries, and bird or rodent nests outdoors.

Adults feed outdoors on flower pollen and nectar; larvae feed indoors on natural fibers such as wool, silk, feathers, fur, and stored food products like grains.

Adults are attracted to light and frequently found crawling on walls or near windows. Larvae avoid light, slow-growing over months, and shed their skins as they grow, often causing damage to organic household materials.

Harmless to humans as they do not bite or sting and do not transmit disease. However, larvae are household pests that can cause significant damage to clothing, upholstery, rugs, and stored pantry foods.
