Natural Habitat

Cracks and crevices near human sleeping areas, including mattresses, bed frames, and upholstered furniture.

Diet & Feeding

Hematophagous; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal parasites that hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis with five nymphal stages, each requiring a blood meal to molt.

Risks & Benefits

While they do not known to transmit diseases, their bites cause itching, allergic reactions, and significant psychological distress and sleep loss. They are difficult to eradicate once an infestation is established.
